Think and Speak, not See and Say

"...not really thinking."

This is me. I'm surprised to admit it. I think I'm trying to avoid offending anyone.

Perhaps this is why I became upset with Victor. He arrived defensive and nothing I said seemed to alter his approach. When I finally told him I would bring the matter up with the board of contractors (I still think I need to write the letter even if I don't mail it, or mail it to the roofing company), I was upset and exasperated.

He showed me the core sample and I measured the inch for myself. My idea was wrong. I was also wrong about how much foam was still on the roof. I softened. He offered to fill in the depressions. I agreed. We filled the hole from the core sample and "leveled" the other two areas to the slope of the roof. That's all I wanted in the first place and could have done it myself. The fact that these were showing up with an inch of foam over them made me doubt the thickness of that inch. I was wrong.

I know spray foam is intensely difficult to apply and perhaps these divots happen frequently. I just wanted the roof to be relatively smooth in slope with no place for puddles. The 48-hour standing water rule was of no interest to me.

We parted in what I hope was a feeling of my gratitude and delivering our second half of the payment.

COVID-19 confirmed cases over time log x log Plot June 2, 2020, to date Clark County, NV; (SNHD)

How To Tell If We're Beating COVID-19 Covid Trends (We're Number One, 12/6/2020) Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) [Southern Nevada Health District COVID-19 Resource Page] COVID-19 Dashboard (Up to the date status in Clark County, Nevada, USA) COVID-19 Maps, Reports and Trends (My source of data for descriptive statistics below) COVID-19 Weekly City Reports (Metropolitan summaries for the weekly state COVID-19 mitigation and management task force meetings, 10 AM, Thursdays, in Carson City, NV, and on ZOOM.) COVID Task Force Assessments The Nevada COVID-19 Task Force has been established to support a new county-specific approach to the state’s emergency response. The Task Force will ensure statewide adoption. At a minimum, it will be made up of heads of key state agencies, private sector representatives, and local representatives. This task force will be charged with ensuring accountability for state-level efforts, coordinating essential activities between departments, and providing a sustainable model for receiving and sharing data and vetting proposals and recommendations. ...To ensure the success of this approach, the task force shall perform the following duties: Meet on at least a weekly basis. Provide a current situation report on COVID-19 in Nevada, including weekly case numbers and county-level analysis. Provide an overview of the COVID-19 response effort in Nevada, including enforcement numbers from throughout the state and other findings. Assess county status per these guidelines and make decisions for actions to be taken over the next week. Collaborate with county representatives to determine best methods for reducing the community burden of COVID-19. Meeting Agendas and Supporting Documents (please see list at link above) My own approach My own approach has been to apply Bhatia & Reich's 2020 approach to the Southern Nevada Health Distirct's (SNHD) ZIP Code data and present a static graph of the case counts by 7-day average logrithmically with date tags to show a similar trend as their animated style. For example, this is the graph for ZIP Code 89101 (Downtown Las Vegas) from 6/2 to 12/6/2020.
For more detailed comparison, there is a view capturing the July maximums.
And, becuase of a major adjustment in one of the ZIP Codes when things were quieter in September, this one is roughly since 9/11.
Of immediate importance, with a little measurement, I've just discovered that this ZIP Code has just surpassed it's maximum in July of 2.384 (10^2.384 = 242 cases per 7-day average) on 7/21 to 2.389 (10^2.389 = 245 cases per 7-day average) on 12/6, my last available data day from the SNHD as of 7:53 AM, Tuesday, 12/8/2020. This is my concern. In July, after the city's reopening on June 4th, the cases grew exponentially to these maximums, particularly in the downtown Las Vegas ZIP Codes and older wards. The city, health district, and state helped launch an effort to mitigate this growth to bring the new cases down to a minimum of 1.556 (10^1.556 = 36 cases per 7-day average) on 9/15. Since then, the cases have grown again a little slower but more in the suburbs than downtown. Today, unfortunately, marks a measure of one of the downtown ZIPs surpassing its maximum last July. (I think 89104 passsed it's total last week.) For that, I've prepared a chart of Clark County, NV, ZIP Codes and their logrithmic counts with attention to the daily change in the 7-day average. The first max measure is from July (before 9/11) and date (for downtown Las Vegas wards), the next is after 9/11 to the last measured date (12/6). These are conditionally formatted by color for green (minimum in that range) to red (maximum in that column range). The daily columns are only white (min) to red (max).
I've got a ton of other work to do, so I have to leave it here. Peace. Here are the links at the bottom of the PDF photos. Grey zip codes defined in SNHD municipal report as Las Vegas, NV, at https://www.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/covid-19-city-reports/ Measures are the Log base 10 of the 7-day average of new cases according to the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) ZIP Code Counts at https://www.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/covid-19-case-count-archive/ Spreadsheet data storage and calcuations can be found at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pLjauoqU5eY0dnXDQDyr-rI3DgVGZjLG_khafqysGCY/edit?usp=sharing John A Perazzo, B.A., Mathematics, 1982, is solely repsonsible for all calculations from the SNHD data. http://jplvnv.blogspot.com/

The Irresistible Force and the Immovable Object

You've heard the old limerick, Ruth and Johnny side by side Went out one day for an auto ride. John hit a bump: Ruth hit a tree, And Johnny kept going ruthlessly. Here's an animated graphic from the National Weather Service I cannot get out of my mind from August, 2014. Imagine "Ruth" is the hurricane Iselle and Mona Loa is the "tree." Notice the effect of the "irresistible" force meeting the immovable object at frame 33 to 37 in this link. What do you think? Could mountains be used to mitigate against hurricanes?

This disaster can be prevented

Global Environmental Protection In light of federal considerations for new appointments for the national environmental protection agency, I must point out certain laws which which this appointment affects. Nevada Revised Statute, NRS 392.040  Attendance required for child between 7 and 18 years of age; minimum age required for kindergarten and first grade; waiver from attendance available for child 6 years of age; developmental screening test required to determine placement; effect of military transfer of parent of child. This is fundamental. Because it is assumed, it cannot be taken for granted. Our community is working very hard to keep students in school and help them graduate. There is another Statute regarding the interference in this process as against the law. NRS 392.200  Criminal complaint by taxpayer, school administrator or school officer.  Any taxpayer, school administrator, school officer or deputy school officer in the State of Nevada may make and file in the proper court a criminal complaint against a parent, guardian or other person who has control or charge of any child who is under 18 years of age and required to attend school pursuant to NRS 392.040 and who violates any of the provisions of law requiring the attendance of children in the public schools of this State. By his leadership position, a person “who has control” is subject to question, agreed, but his influence must be considered if his actions or words accomplish a deterrent to attendance in school. It is against the law for any person, domestic or foreign, to deter any student on his way to or from school. I plead the court to consider any negative attitude of persons in leadership regarding learning, science and generally accepted as true as a detriment to school attendance. in the proper court The Light Has Come. It frightens children. It is against Aloha law.
